official KRATARKNATHRAK website V4.0

Kratarknathrak started out as an electro-techno outfit in Augustus 1997. The first release was the 60 minute tape album "Mihrbek" which was still very primitive. The music was a mixture of elektro. ambient and EBM. The second tape album "Vortrakk" was much better and showed a sound progressing in a more aphex twin like IDM direction. There was also an third album "Ak't". But due to the purchase of a CD writer, this album was never released, and the best songs of "Ak't" and "Vortrakk" were released as the first CD album "Virk". With the addition of a new track.

Right after the release of this album, work started on the second album. This album became very dark and intense due to influences from the horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. Entitled "Nyarlathotep" it achieved good critics. One of the songs ("Herokh") made it to the CD with the dutch version of Future Music (bad enough, not in exsistance anymore). The same magazine was responsible for the third album "Plastik". A contest in the magazine in which they asked to create Future music, led to three songs which participated in that contest. These Three songs ("G'zer v1.1"," DVC N RRR" and "Brec") were the base for "Plastik". No price was won unfortunately, but this is mainly the reason why this album is much more lighter than the other releases.

The darkness returned with probably Kratarknathrak's darkest album to date. Occult readings, Lovecraft and the Atlantis myth gave birth to "Antichrist". Haunted Drum&bass, Darkambient and Occult IDM are the main ingredients. This album also includes the almost half an hour of Atlantis. A musical tour de force in five pieces. A part of this was also selected for a Future music CD.

Science and Geology was the basis for "Sulphur". Still dark and haunted, but with a lot af influences from minimal music from Sterve Reich and Phillip Grass, which are responsible for a much lighter sound. On this album also the song "Penny's private parts" which was a number 1 in the mp3 electronica list on www.soundclick.com.

"Gothic Glitch" was more darker, and progressed in a more IDM like style with influences from Gothic and darkwave. Some of the songs have very intense ritual properties. And drumsounds became more industrial.

In Januari 2002 work started on "Souvenir" , After an difficult start the album came easy and was finished in March. It shows a less darker and more melodic side, with influences reaching from medieval to minimal music, and from Drum&bass/breakbeat to gothic and darkwave.

Kratarknathrak was asked to do a remix for the Arizona based EBM outfit Noise Process. In the wake of this remix, new songs were created, which led to "Perpetual motion Machine". A decision was made to release this album only on LP. This album combines IDM with darkwave. Dark moody ambient soundscapes with influences from electro. A limited edition of this album was made for those who preordered the LP. This included the compilation CD A chronology of losers"which consists of outtakes from 5 years Kratarknathrak, as well as two songs from the first cassette albums.

During 2003 and 2004 there was heavy work on another project of Kratarknathrak called "The peoples republic of Europe". Still some songs were made during this period, and 5 of them are released as the "Retrograad EP" on the Laidback electronica label. Other tracks, together with new ones, will be released as the forthcoming "Dogun teatime" album, which promises to become a dark and gloomy album somewhere between IDM, Darkambient, Darkwave, Breakcore and industrial.
